Islam, a word that is massively used in today’s world, to promote some ideas, which is not even close to what it actually is. Keeping that in mind, we will try our best to present to you, Islam, as simply as possible.
Islam terminologically means ‘Submission to the will of Allah’. Allah is considered to be the one and only deity of worship. It is an Abrahamic monotheistic religion. In modern English, you can understand the word, God. But, in a broad sense, the word God can be changed. For example – Goddess, Gods, son of God, etc. On the other hand, Allah tells himself ‘Ahad’ or ‘One’ in the holy Quran in 112:1.
This chapter (sura) of the Holy Quran was revealed in response to the disbelievers who asked about Allah, His lineage, His family, etc. Allah revealed those verses defining His own identity.
However, the first sentence (kalima) or testimony of Islam is such –
“لَآ اِلٰهَ اِلَّااللهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَّسُولُ اللہِ”
This means – “There is no God but Allah, Muhammad(sm) is Allah’s messenger”.
A person who follows the ideology of Islam is called a Muslim. According to the testimony, a Muslim cannot but consider Allah as the one and only deity of worship. S/He can not consider anybody partners with Allah. This covers all sectors related to Him, e.g – His dominion, His position as a creator, a preserver, and maintainer of the whole universe.
Islam is not confined to the idea of a normal religion, it is called ‘Deen’ or complete code of life. It has well-defined systems and principles, not just theoretically but the prophet Muhammad(sm) established and practiced those practically. For example – Financial systems, Social systems, Judicial systems, Military systems, etc.
The most important source of Islam is the Quran, which is the direct speech of Allah the almighty. Hadith or the saying of the prophet Muhammad (sm) is also considered as a major source of Islam. Prophet (sm) practiced the orders and principles that Allah revealed upon him. When some new issues arise in society, the scholars judge the new issues with respect to the Quran and Hadith or sunnah ( the sayings, doings, and silent agreements) of the prophet (sm). In no circumstance can they go beyond the limit that Allah and his messenger defined.
